Why read it
For fans of
This series imagines Japan's gods not as distant, solemn figures but as a classroom of energetic, unruly children, and at the center of it all stands one overwhelmed young teacher. He never expected to end up leading their lessons, yet here he is, trying to instill a little order into a room full of divine mischief-makers.
The humor comes from the gap between myth and mundane school life. These are gods, after all, prone to grand gestures and wild personalities, but inside the classroom they behave like any group of overly energetic children, squabbling, showing off, and testing their teacher's patience at every turn. Readers who enjoy comedies built around a beleaguered authority figure trying to wrangle a cast of big personalities will find plenty to smile at here.
The series blends light education about Japanese myth with slice-of-life school comedy, giving readers a sense of who these mythological figures are even as it plays with their quirks for laughs. It never feels like a lecture; the mythology is simply the raw material for jokes about mismatched expectations and classroom chaos.
As the story reaches the end of its first term, the tone stays warm rather than frantic. The yankee energy of the child gods and the teacher's constant exasperation make for an easy, amusing read, well suited to anyone who likes gentle workplace comedy crossed with a classroom setting. It closes out its run with the same cheerful spirit it started with, giving its rowdy young cast a proper send-off without losing the comedic charm that carried the whole series.
