- Transformed companion His cat becomes a guardian beast, fighting alongside him with newfound power.
- Near-death turn An attack by a fellow adventurer forces him into the rift that changes everything.
For fans of
Dungeons tearing open across the planet is the kind of disaster that usually ends a country, but in this story it becomes the thing that saves one. Japan, cut off from the rest of the world when the dungeons first appeared, finds its footing again thanks to the strange resources and powers the dungeons bring with them. Out of that recovery comes an ordinary man whose only family left is his cat, and who spends everything he has to become an adventurer himself.
The turn comes fast: a junior adventurer nearly kills him, and in the panic of the moment he throws himself into a tear in space and time known as a twilight hole. On the other side is an entire second world, one with its own rules and its own job system, unlike anything that exists back on earth. From there the story becomes about moving between two worlds rather than settling into one, carrying the stakes of each into the other.
His cat is no longer just a companion either. Transformed into a guardian beast, it fights beside him with power that did not exist before the dungeons changed everything, and the bond between them becomes as central to the story as the two worlds themselves. Readers who enjoy a hero gaining strength from an unfamiliar system, and who like that strength tied to a loyal, transformed animal companion, will find a lot to like here.
What makes the premise interesting is the symmetry of it: earth shut out of the rest of the world before being pulled back in by the dungeons, and then one man pulled out of earth entirely and given access to a world beyond it. The near-fatal attack that sends him through the rift gives the story its initial jolt of urgency, and the promise of moving freely between two very different worlds, armed with a system and a companion unique to him, gives it room to keep building from there.
For readers drawn to stories about adventurers, strange new powers, and the pull of two worlds instead of one, this entry continues a premise built for exactly that kind of momentum, following a man and his cat as they make their mark in places earth never imagined.
